Čulenova areal

Areál Čulenova

The task of the competition Čulenova - New City Centre was to suggest a solution for a development of large area (brownfield) near the center of Bratislava, in the area delimited by Čulenova, Továrenská and Landererova streets, which has very good transport and visual connection with the historic city center. In the suggested design, buildings, offices, shops, restaurants and the former heating plant (whose reconstruction and rebuilding into a gallery), are placed in a four-floors "urban basement" on a pedestrian platform raised on 1 meter above the level of city sidewalk. Building volumes of this "basement" have the organic shape so it is not a form the "administrative monotony" environment with long facades but it creates urban spaces with a human scale, inspired layered and picturesque buildings of the historic city center.

On this heavy traffic load area, the project offers to place of apartments in residential towers on the level of the roof gardens of commercial "basement". This level also provides valuable views on the historic center, the surrounding buildings and the Danube River. Residential facades are maximally oriented towards the south, the historic center and the river. The narrower sides of residential towers are oriented towards the city center, for better visual connection of new apartments with the historic center.
